irritation- cd burning ISSUES!

topic posted Sun, April 20, 2008 - 4:15 PM by  samara☀
I've had my mac os x ver. 10.4.11 for months now and have never tried to burn a music cd until now. It will burn it but then I can't hear anything when I try to play the cd in my car or in my sony home system. It looks like it's playing but there is no sound. I checked the hard-drive and it said that there was a problem with volume that the disk utility could not repair. BUT in order to re-boot with the system disks, it says to back up all my files in case some get lost in the process. How can I back them up if the burner is not working right?? Anybody know what else could be wrong? I am using sony cd-r disks. Also- the disk will play on my computer in itunes.

So frustrating.

Thanks!

    Wow , that sux ,
Sounds like a Permissions problem to me ..HMMMmmmm. . .
if you have the original system disk (a DVD ?) ..try starting up from it..but do not re-install the software
go ^^ up to the blue apple ^^ and open Disk Utiltiy . . and start running it..instead
Pre suming you are the administrator of your machine ..go through all the permissions one - by - one
( it's a drop down ) and make your self the owner again by resetting them
i run 3.9 still & don't really know if this will work
as a caveat - i found that if i dump everything that has to do with sys 9.x that helps a L O T with permission
type problems , for various reasons . .2.7 - 9.x is dead now any way ..
Imation® is a Jaz® drive , right ? This plays directly in to the 9.x dump everything argument
Just make sure you have acess to the most current driver for that burner ..somewhere ..to re in stall if need be . .
You are usng correct Cds and stuff . . you will not have to reinstall system software ..i'd bet ..run
software up date too, if you haven't . . heard that Safari® was recently updated because of java® related problems
    javascripts® can be configured as viruses and are . . Sony® does that . . they have a crawler . .
    Hope this helps ,

        ..HAHahHAhah Sam ,

Good luck . Don't use Toast®. You can make it
        work well just using iTunes ® , i s w ea r..fiddle
around with the volume settings and the automatic
sound level controls - both on a the 'puter and on
your iPod® if you use that, also

. If you want to download o f f an iPod® to your machine
        use Senuti® shareware..

        iPods® make g r e a t back - up drives , too .

        Alo'ha ,

Are you sure you're burning audio disks?
    check iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Burning/DiskFormat

Your HD should have nothing to do with it.

    >How can I back them up if the burner is not working right??<
External hard disk, or another 'puter's HD, or online backup site.

You'll also want to make sure you're burning an "Audio CD" and not a "Data CD" or "MP3 CD". This is set in the iTunes preferences in the "Burning" section (it's under the "Advanced" tab in the most recent version of iTunes).

    HTH - Good luck!

well.....itunes is set to audio. The disks I tried are sony cd-r and memorex cd-r and unfortunately the apple tech guy in India (lol) said that there is something wrong with the disk driver and therefore I need to take it to get it fixed. This came after we tried starting the computer up with the dvd it comes with. It is still under warranty- guess I'll be without a computer for a few days. Thanks for all your help though :)))))
